Currently GPN Texas is a fully chartered chapter underneath GPN! In 2024–2025, URISA officially rebranded as the Geospatial Professional Network (GPN) to better reflect its expanded mission and global reach. As URISA became GPN, or "The GPN", URISA Texas became GPN Texas.
The membership model utilized is consistent with many Professional Organization structures in that a new member becomes a member for both the parent organization (The GPN) and their local Chapter (GPN Texas). Members of GPN Texas are crucial to the organization as only members can vote in the elections for the board and leadership of GPN Texas. Volunteers are crucial to the organization and can be a contact, membership is not required.
GPN Members: If you join The GPN through the International organization, you may also select GPN Texas as your chapter. At this time, GPN Texas does not charge additional chapter dues beyond your GPN membership dues.
GPN Texas Contacts: If you choose not to become a GPN member, you may still register with GPN Texas as a contact. Contacts are not GPN Texas members but may participate in many chapter activities, including Mappy Hours, Speaker Series, workshops, and other events.
Event Registration: Registration through the GPN Texas website is required for activities such as PDH certificates and certain events. Registration also allows us to communicate important event information, including schedule, location, or other changes.
Inactive Contact Accounts: To help GPN Texas manage its contact database and organizational expenses, contact accounts may be deactivated after one year without website login activity. Deactivation does not prevent you from reconnecting with GPN Texas in the future.
GPN Texas was founded in 2012. After 2018, URISA announced its “OneURISA” model to unify chapters and formalize their relationship with the parent organization. The model is consistent with many Professional Organization structures in that a new member becomes a member for both the parent organization (URISA) and their local Chapter (URISA Texas).
